After seeing a presentation about the salt plugin for foreman, I was under the impression that it could be used withough the smart proxy to get information about the salt minions (facts/reports/etc) through the salt-api. Maybe this was the case in earlier versions of the plugin.

Trying to install salt plugin for 1.12 (version 0.6), it seems that you have to install everything on the same machine as the salt master. Is there a way to split up the setup (have foreman running on a separate host) and have a minimal foreman_proxy install on the salt master?

Is the "Foreman external node classifier" optional ?
