Currently this is available with hosts, but with everything else you have to go to the locations endpoint to do this.

I think this is just an API documentation issue - but you should be able to set either location_ids or location_names on resources that support location assignments. Note that these attributes are plural, while a host is singular (one-to-many versus one-to-one with locations).
